Tasting Notes and How to Use
Aroma: Potent, lychee-like elderflower blossom with soft white-flower and pear hints.
Concentration Behavior: 1 drop per 100 ml: a light elderflower accent. 3-4 drops: full elderflower character. Above 7 drops: can turn harsh and overpowering. In kombucha, iced tea, or a juice mocktail the base carries part of the flavor, so 1 drop is usually enough; no more than 3.
Best Pairings: Citrus: lemon, lime, grapefruit blend, yuzu. Spirits: gin, prosecco, blanco tequila, vodka, sparkling wine. Herbs: mint, basil, thyme, lemon verbena. Bases: sparkling water, tonic water, lemonade, coconut water. Fruits: strawberry, cucumber, peach, raspberry.
Layering Partners: Use at 3:1 with Elderflower dominant. + Lemonade: floral lemonade. + Cucumber: garden spritz. + Yuzu: Japanese floral-citrus. + Hibiscus: tart-floral complexity. As a 2-3 drop accent behind any citrus build for botanical lift.
Substitutes For: St-Germain or elderflower liqueur flavor (1-4 drops per serving, without the sugar load); elderflower cordial in lemonade builds (with a sweetener); the floral note in sparkling cocktails.
Does Not Replace: The sweetness or body of elderflower liqueur or cordial -- add simple syrup or honey syrup. Acidity -- add fresh lemon or lime juice.
When To Add: Add at the end of preparation or directly in the glass; the floral aroma is volatile. In sparkling builds, add before topping with fizz so the carbonation lifts the aroma.
Use With Caution: Highly potent: stay at or below 7 drops per 100 ml in any drink; past that it can turn harsh and overpowering. Potent aroma -- scale batch punches carefully; it can overwhelm at high concentration. Choose Basil for a green herbal note; choose Hibiscus for tart-floral rather than delicate sweet-floral.
Perfect for: spring garden, wedding toast, or garden party -- and anything that calls for light and floral for a garden party or something elegant for a wedding toast.
