Safety Handling Procedures and Warnings

Flavorah ™ is a food grade flavoring concentrate. It can be used in any application that requires GRAS food-grade ingredients. Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) does not apply to any flavoring used for inhalation.  There is no GRAS or FDA approved flavoring for inhalation.

Flavorah is not made or derived from tobacco, does not contain nicotine and is not a tobacco product. Flavorah is a raw material that must be further processed for use; it cannot be used directly in any vape related device. Please refer to this document or our FAQs for more information on the Status of Flavorah Flavor Compounds under the tobacco control act and FDA's Deeming Rule

Bulk sizes are available for commercial production and will be shipped in a HDPE or PET jug.  15ml size is shipped in a PET or glass bottle and is suitable for small batch development and recipe creation. We recommend testing usage rates 0.25 - 3.00% for most flavors.

Harm Reduction: There is no safe alternative to smoking. Tobacco harm reduction is possible, but no person should start inhalation of vapor products if it is not part of a harm reduction strategy.

WARNING: DO NOT attempt to vape concentrated flavor directly without further processing.   DO NOT use any Flavorah flavor except for its intended use as a flavoring.

WARNING: Exposure may result in irritation of the eyes, skin, nose, throat and respiratory tract. Avoid contact with undiluted flavor concentrate. If contact is made, seek medical attention as follows:

  • Eyes: Immediately flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally opening the upper and lower eyelids.
  • Skin: Immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contaminated clothing.
  • Ingestion: Harmful if swallowed. Nausea and vomiting may occur. Call poison control: 1 (800) 222-1222

WARNING: This product may contain compounds that may be hazardous to your health. There is no FDA approved flavoring for inhalation.

We do not add Diacetyl or Acetyl Propionyl (a/k/a 2,3-pentanedione) to any of our products, but diacetyl and/or acetyl propionyl may naturally occur in the flavor extraction process in some of our products. Acetoin is used in the compounding of some of our products.

The inhalation of flavoring may expose you to hazardous chemicals, toxins, and nanoparticles, including diacetyl, acetyl propionyl and/or acetoin, which have been associated with permanent lung injury and disease, including bronchiolitis obliterans, a disease characterized by inflammation and scarring of the small airways of the lungs, which leads to severe and disabling shortness of breath. Exposure to the aerosol can trigger, aggravate, and exacerbate various adverse health effects including but not limited to cancer, carcinoma, addiction, birth defects, heart disease, arteriosclerosis, liver and kidney disease, abnormal conditions, disorders, symptoms, and illness of the human body.

STATE OF CALIFORNIA WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.

Acetoin, Acetyl Propionyl & Diacetyl

(updated 4/12/2017)

We do not add Diacetyl or Acetyl Propionyl (also known as 2,3-pentanedione) to our flavors. However, there is naturally occurring diacetyl in some of our products based upon the natural chemistry and flavor extraction process. Acetoin is used in compounding some of our flavors.

Inhalation of diacetyl, acetyl propionyl, and/or acetoin has been linked to damage to the respiratory tract and lungs, including the lung disease bronchiolitis obliterans. Exposure could result in irritation and damage to the eyes, skin, nose, throat, and respiratory tract, and could cause permanent lung damage.

GC-MS

Our third party gas chromatography–mass spectrometer (GC-MS) testing results for acetoin, acetyl propionyl, and diacetyl (DAAP) are available in the safety table below.

GC-MS and SDS for all Flavorah Flavorings

Flavorah provides third-party Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS) testing results and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all available flavorings in the table on our retail site. “Recommended Use Rate” refers to our recommended concentration for best flavor efficiency and performance. All flavors are lab tested at 100% concentration.“Not Detected” (ND) limit is 5ppm“MSDS” (aka SDS) stands for Material Safety Data Sheet. (updated 11/04/2019)
